Finding the Joy
This was a great gift from Rick’s mom. I love to use it when travelling for my laptop, kindle, coloring books, etc… known as my “joy bag”. It’s perfect. And a perfect theme for today. Unfortunately, Rick did not get a good night’s rest. He has pleurisy, which is a frequent thing for him, especially… Read more

Out of the frying pan and into the…fridge
Looking at the weather today in Las Vegas, in addition to the short-range forecasts for there and Death Valley, we certainly made the right call. Temps in the mid to upper 90’s. That’s pretty hot. But it’s a dry heat, right? Where we sit, just a few miles into the canyon east of Cedar City,… Read more

So many stories…
This is the post that could have many titles… but I will use them as subtitles to tell our story and then figure out what to call it. Glampers, not campers As mentioned, the North Rim campground is primitive, something we haven’t done yet on this trip. Our previous primitive camping in the National Parks… Read more

Goodbye, Springdale
After four magnificent nights just outside Zion, we bid farewell this morning. But as we were in no hurry, we took time to enjoy coffee and breakfast outside and allowed ourselves one more chance to take in the beauty. Our destination – the north rim of the Grand Canyon. The route we would take today… Read more

Chillin’
Our last full day here in Zion has been quite relaxing and wonderful. We had some great rest (again), and as I peered into Rick’s pupils this am, I declared him much improved. This, of course, is a very scientific measurement… but trust me, the changes have been dramatic! We still decided to take it… Read more

Cooling off and slowing down
Today was certainly a better day! Even though I slept a bunch throughout the day yesterday, I still got a decent night’s sleep last night. Karen certainly did, as she was not up all night worried about me. I awoke ready to tackle the day (or at least nudge it slowly along). The drop in… Read more

Some like it hot… but not us
It’s not what we expected for today. And you didn’t expect to have Karen posting, but here I am. Rick is officially overheated with a nasty case of heat exhaustion. He woke up miserable in the middle of the night and is still feeling the effects. It’s been rough. We both laid awake for hours… Read more

The Midpoint
Zion, and more specifically the town of Springdale. It’s incredible. But first… does anyone else just love that perfect night where you can sleep with the windows open? Well, we had that last night. Plus we had to take our time this am, which also promoted a good night’s rest. We enjoyed coffee and breakfast… Read more

It’s the heat that gets ya’
Today we entered our 25th National Park together. Zion. Zion referred to the hill in Jerusalem where David built his temple, the holiest spot. It has also come to mean “holy place” or “kingdom of heaven”. When this area was first seen by settlers, it was quickly named Zion due to the incredible beauty. It… Read more

Taking the scenic route
The title of my post today is probably a decent metaphor for our life together. I’m so grateful that we do take time to appreciate and enjoy the things around us, and are intentional in where and how we spend our time. That being said, we are still basking in what a perfect day we… Read more
