Finding the Joy

This was a great gift from Rick’s mom. I love to use it when travelling for my laptop, kindle, coloring books, etc… known as my “joy bag”. It’s perfect. And a perfect theme for today.

Unfortunately, Rick did not get a good night’s rest. He has pleurisy, which is a frequent thing for him, especially in altitude and/or when he gets worn down. We are grateful that his primary care doctor is aware of his propensity for this condition, and makes sure he always has a steroid prescription on hand. So he woke up early and started on his prednisone treatment immediately. While he will probably be feeling crappy for a few days, he is on his way to regaining his strength. And we are in the perfect place, with no specific plans, for rest.

And in fact, it was a cozy Sunday morning here. The rain/sleet started early, as expected. In Livvy, you can really hear the rain. So we all cuddled back up and got some good rest. Who needs a white noise machine when you can have the real thing?

The clouds were just hanging in the canyon, and the rain was hanging off the trees. We wanted cooler weather, but we’re also glad we didn’t have to deal with real snow. We are, however, removing our water lines and put our tank heaters on at night to prevent freezing. We don’t need any of those issues! Just a few miles up the road, they got about six inches of snow today.

We got up in time for Daisy’s grooming appointment and “before picture”

Look at those teeth 🙂 And while still cute, it was time to get her groomed!

I found “Dirty Paws” based on fantastic google reviews, and we got lucky to get a slot, thanks to a cancellation. Kayla is building up her business, did a great job and even gave us a fantastic Thai restaurant recommendation that we may have to check out!

Where the magic happened.
All cleaned up!

I got some really cute pics from the groomer, too!!

So sweet!
Like a model!!

While Daisy was being groomed, we were able to take some time to rework the next couple of segments of our trip. I’m now even more grateful that these next few days keep us right here, for rest and recovery. But we’ve been able to convert some reservations and found a great spot for extra time in Estes Park next weekend. This is one of our favorite places and so it is all working out well.

It was still a cold, gloomy day and we even had another round of hail this afternoon.

Perfect hibernating weather.

And then…

The skies cleared and it was gorgeous! We needed the fresh air so we sat outside for a while. It was crisp (low 40s) but the sun makes everything better.
You can see a little fresh snow on the top of this ridge across the street

The gloom is out of here, with sunny skies ahead for us the next couple of days! We are likely to stay right here at the campground and let Rick recuperate properly. No need to trek up a few thousand feet in elevation to sightsee or hike when we have sunny skies, gorgeous views, and each other right here. It’s everything we want and need.

Hope you found joy in your day, too.
