Yes, we’ve made it 55% of the way home today, which is impressive and well surpassing our goal. Being numbers oriented, we felt that half way was a pretty aggressive goal for today, but yet still safe.
We purposefully didn’t push for an early start so that we could be well rested for a couple/few days of intense driving. Yet we were still on the road by 9am and ready for the very long journey along I-90.

This major highway means lots of reliable roads, always some traffic, and generally safe shoulders if we should have to pull over. Plus we can easily remain connected to look up our next gas/rest stop as well as keep the audio book flowing (currently Inferno by Dan Brown while we wait for his newest novel to be available from the library; I have never read this one, and Rick didn’t mind the re-read). All in all, if you have to drive over a thousand miles, this is the kind of road you want to be on.
I’m grateful to report that it was an uneventful day. Just long and what you would expect driving across South Dakota, Minnesota and now into Wisconsin. Oh and we “lost an hour” going into Central time, and will lose another one tomorrow, making the day feel even longer. We do a great job of taking turns and taking breaks, as well as keeping each other well cared for.

We’re in the Wisconsin Dells area, which we have stayed in previously, but at a new campground. We arrived over an hour after dark so Rick definitely had the toughest drive of the day, and something we very rarely do. But he was willing to keep going this far, knowing that there are plenty of campgrounds in this area. We got set up with flashlights and our outdoor lighting fully ablaze, now winding down for hopefully a good night’s sleep. We’ll barely see this place in the light of day as we hope to do our “last day” morning chores at first light and then get on the road. We recognize we are likely to encounter some rain tomorrow.
Our goal… Bay Village!
