Today’s route is one we have driven 3 times in the past year and a half. So we’ve already blogged about the scenery a couple of times along Rt 80 in Utah and Wyoming. But even so, I have a few things to share.
We realized last night that the Salt Lake City KOA is one of the few campgrounds we have stayed at 3 times. The others are Kearney, NE, and of course, Cedar Point. We like this place, and we’re glad that it fit into our adjusted schedule. It was a lovely night to be outside, especially after a few days of rather intense driving. I was feeling the need to move, so we spent quite a bit of time walking (or more appropriately, pacing) around our campsite. Hey, it was better than sitting!
It was such a nice opportunity to both reflect and plan together. We are so happy with the many travels we have completed, and contemplated big questions surrounding what our priorities are going forward. Which parks do we really intend to visit? We recently finished the Dear Bob and Sue audiobook, which is about a couple who travels to all of the national parks. It reinforced that we really don’t want to go to all of these places! Some are just too remote for us. And more importantly, which are best for RV travel? This is an ongoing discussion, of course. But while we are while admittedly a little road-weary, it is a healthy time to consider these questions. We will take time to reflect again after we have been home for a few weeks.
While we have driven this route a few times, we had the pleasure of incredible fall color coming out of Salt Lake City this morning. It is always a beautiful area, but this was the first time to appreciate the stunning reds and golds along with the green. I am hoping we will get to enjoy lots of fall color in the next few weeks, including Northeast Ohio.
Next, we finally stopped at Little America! For those who have driven this route, Little America plasters the roadside with all kinds of billboards for miles and miles. We had planned to stay in their RV park last time, but didn’t make it due to the medical reschedule. But today was the day, because I wanted the much-advertised $1 ice cream cone. It was delicious, worth every cent and made for a great place to stretch our legs for a few minutes.
Lastly, we stopped somewhere new tonight. We are in Rawlins, WY and are so pleasantly surprised at this campground that you can see perched right above I80. We expected very little, to be honest. It is spacious, clean and had a lovely little well-stocked store. There is a restaurant just down the street that we saw several couples walking to. We opted to get some fresh air for a couple of hours and then made a lovely dinner here this evening. We’re enjoying some football and relaxing in near-perfect weather. After all, it is October and we’re not going to get many more days like this.
One more big driving day before we get back into some fun…
