Nothing is good

Today was one of those days that just not all that much happened. Makes it a little challenging to write something at night. I’ll give it a try anyway.

Our time in Willamette was amazing. The wines were everything we hoped and more, the campsite was fantastic, and the weather was perfect. It felt odd to not have a glass of pinot in my had at 11:00am, however. We packed up and headed out on our short drive to Diamond Lake RV Park.

Karen snapped this sunrise shot of mists hanging over a field of grapes. I think it’s awesome!

Diamond Lake is located just a few miles north of the entrance to Crater Lake National Park, our destination the next two days. The lake is truly gorgeous, flanked to the west by Mount Bailey and to the east by Mount Theilsen. Both are beautiful, but very different in appearance. Bailey has a wide, rounded summit line while Theilsen is punctuated by a rock spire at the top. It strikes a pretty impressive line on the horizon, even from a distance.

Our RV park is nestled between the foothills of Thielsen and Diamond Lake. Quite unlike our last stop, our site is again surrounded by tall pines and firs. Of course, we already miss the very level, very clean concrete pad we had in Willamette! This site is more, shall we say, rustic? It’s not a bad place at all, just a bit “tired” and in need of some updating. No matter, it will work just fine for us.

Directly across the street from the campground, sitting on the lake shore, is a small pizza joint called South Shore Pizza. It is literally the only place within walking distance of our site to eat, and the reviews were very good. Given the fact that the meals we brought from home will not last the entire trip, we walked over for dinner.

From the outside, South Shore is not promising. It really doesn’t look like much. Inside was clean and cozy and smelled wonderful. Plus they have local beer on tap as a plus. We ordered a pie and two draught IPA’s and found a table by a window. We had a great view of the lake and a dock, plus a grass area where many people took their pizza to eat at picnic tables. We had to stay inside because draught beer was not allowed to be taken outside. We didn’t care because it was a lovely place to sit.

The beer was ice-cold and delicious. But even better was the pizza! It can be tough to expect a lot from a place that has NO real competition. South Shore certainly delivered (Well, to our table. They don’t actually deliver. LOL) All in all it was a winning experience, and we just may find ourselves back there tomorrow night.

That’s some hazy IPA love in those glasses.

I am inside Livvy writing this post because, for the first time in a long time on this trip, it was too chilly to stay outside. It is 8:48pm and it is 54 degrees out there. Too cold to sit out but it will make for perfect sleeping weather. We plan on getting up early and heading into our 31st national park.

I suppose more happened today than the “nothing” I started with. The one thing that’s true, though, is that “nothing happening” while traveling in a moving house is usually a good thing. See you tomorrow!

Oakridge, Oregon. Man walking dog in wheelchair. Normal? Only they know.
Great pizza view. They man on the dock looks like he might be relieving himself, but he’s actually just fishing.
Not a bad after dinner view.
