A little over a year ago we were in Dickinson, North Dakota on our way “back” from Yellowstone. For those who were following then, you may remember the horrible weather we encountered, leading to our sheltering in the laundry during a tornado warning. Then, of course, was the tire problem that ended up shortening that trip. Needless to say, coming “back” into this state brought those memories “back”.
We made a pit stop at a rest area just east of Fargo after a lovely morning drive. Karen was still at the helm. Our coffee cups were empty, so I went into the “back” to exchange them for our water bottles. When I leaned over to pick them up off the couch, I threw out my back. Yes, the same stupid thing that happened in Maine on 2023 happened again this morning. No rhyme or reason, just and odd bend or twist and that was it.
Damn it.
That’s all we needed. Time for Tylenol. I was able to take my turn driving, though.
We crossed into ND and stopped for lunch near Fargo. Given the scarcity of fueling options along I-94, we had stopped at the same Love’s last year. Their entire POS system was rebooting so we had to pay cash for gas. Yes, we had to go inside and interact with someone. Yuck!
This state is lovely, the rolling hills going on endlessly. While we saw field after field of canola last year, this year we passed landscapes covered in corn and sunflower. The visuals were stunning.
We are spending tonight near Bismarck in a rather crappy little RV park. It’s only one night and it’s close to the highway, so it’s fine. Definitely would not stop here again if we could help it. After some great martinis and dinner, we are relaxing before bed. Until tomorrow.
