Enjoying Estes Park

As anyone who reads this knows, we love to be on the road. And for the most part, they are places we want to visit, but would never want to live there. I think that we both agree that this area may be the exception. As Rick said, it is our third time in Estes Park. But it is just as magical every time.

Today we woke up to moody skies and cool temps; not ideal for a holiday weekend unless you are like us and hoping for reduced crowds.

We were grateful to sit outside for a while, trading bright warm sun for overcast skies and cool breezes, several times over. Each time, the changing skies were a relief! But as expected, eventually the clouds won and we made our way inside to check out the uber availability.

Being the holiday weekend, we knew better than to take Livvy anywhere. It is much too crowded, even with less than ideal weather. Since we are only at this campground for 2 nights, we decided to keep Livvy in place and make this an uber day. Glad we did, as the traffic was crazy in town! I think that with the cool temps, clouds and breezy weather, everyone had the same idea.

Our first destination was the Stanley hotel. First, and most importantly, it is the highest elevation. Second, it was a place that Rick has been fascinated with since the first time we came here (it was the inspiration for Stephen King’s The Shining), and has been a wonderful visit each time. Today, while more crowded than we would like, did not disappoint. We enjoyed wonderful cocktails, beautiful surroundings and some fun interactions with those around us.

Beautiful Old Fashioned cocktails at the Stanley!

From there, we walked downhill into town to see more of the town. Our favorite gallery also did not disappoint; we will likely go back to get another piece from our favorite artist. There was also an outdoor local art show with a variety of interesting artists. So glad we had time to see it!

We also then visited one of our other favorite places from 2019…

Claire’s!

We then meandered through town and the touristy stores, on our way to the coffee shop that is special in our hearts

Coffee on the Rocks! We were here several times with his kids in 2023, and are sure to be back again when we can sit outside

We called it a day after that, ubering back to the campground and having a great dinner at home. Since we have to move to a new campground tomorrow, it is a great time to unhook and explore a bit of RMNP, one of our favorites. We can’t wait to enjoy it, and share it with you tomorrow!
