Easter in Nebraska

Hello again! Things have calmed down a bit since my last post, regarding issues with Livvy. Almost calmed down completely, that is. Karen found today that our rear window was leaking a small amount of water (thanks to the incessant rains most of the drive) into the bathroom. Alas, the window seal needs to be replaced. Not a big job but yet another maintenance item we’ll address over the next few days.

Karen really sold herself short in her post yesterday. Anyone who has known her for a long time may be surprised to see all she is able to handle. True, there are some things which she hasn’t had experience (mostly related to “house-like” stuff like plumbing and electrical). But for the tasks associated with managing the day-to-day of RV life, she is incredible! There is nothing she cannot handle, from driving to set-up and tear-down, she can do it all. This is the same person whom, when we met, said she would NEVER want to travel the country in an RV. How the times have changed!

Our morning started out wet, which meant breaking camp in the rain. Getting everything outside put away is never fun in the rain, but coupled with cold temps the fun was diminished even more! Fortunately our site was surrounded with gravel so we didn’t have mud to deal with as well.

The rain stayed with us for the majority of the travel day. However, being Easter Sunday, it was mostly just semis on the highway. It really does help to not have cars weaving in and out, hanging right on our butt as we try to pass. We made good time to our home for the evening in Kearney, Nebraska. (If you’ve never seen, we map out stops for each of our trips, as well as National Parks visited, on our Trip Maps page which you can find HERE.)

We stayed at this same campground last year, on the way home from our Southern California trip. It is a lovely place and conveniently located right off of I-80. It’s still early in the season, so there are only 6 RVs here tonight. We like the lack of crowds! The temps were cool upon our arrival but the sun was shining. Daisy was happy to run in the sand on the lake-front beach. We are enjoying a quiet cocktail before dinner and turning in for the evening.

We have had some bumps along the way already, and there will be others. But tonight, sitting in solitude with a cool breeze blowing in the windows and The Needy Bichon lying in her bed and not a sound to be heard, we realize what we love about our RV travels. The stillness and calmness and beauty that is in VAST supply in our country. All you need to do is open yourself up to it.

Mama time in the morning, before the mean one wakes up.
But I want to run. It’s the beach!!
I heard a splash in the water!!!
Easter martinis, in festive glasses. Yes, they are our everyday martini glasses, but they are extra-special today!
