We had so much fun the first 3 nights in Dickinson, ND that we decided to stay another night!
Well, not exactly…
While Theodore Roosevelt National Park was wonderful, and our site at North Park Campground is lovely, we didn’t stay because of those. We stayed because we ran into a small snag with Livvy. When we arrived home from the park last night, I noticed that one of our rear tires was completely flat. We have dualies back there (meaning 4 tires total on the rear axle), so I didn’t notice it while driving.
Of course, we returned too late to catch the two tire shops nearby before they closed. As they are not open on Sunday, we decided to stay put and wait for Monday. That meant a relaxing and enjoyable day right here at North Park!
We got to sleep in and enjoy coffee in our real mugs, as opposed to the travel mugs we use on driving days. After that, we got the blood pumping by taking a great walk around the area. Yes, it’s very industrial, but on a Sunday that meant no traffic. I even got to see a location for a previous client of mine, Dakota Supply Group, which was 0.3 miles from the campground. Ironically, we were supposed to be spending today in Aberdeen, SD visiting a friend who still works for DSG. Kaitlin and Kenna and David, we will certainly catch you next time through!
We are not sure either shop will have the correct tire, or that they can even get us in for service tomorrow. Because of that, and due to the fact we are already a day behind in our anticipated itinerary, we had no choice but to cancel the remainder of this trip. Heading straight home from here, once ready to go, was the best option. Unfortunately, that means missing other wonderful friends we were going to see in Michigan. Carey, Matt, and Diego – we will see you all very soon.
After lunch, the wind that has been almost consistent since we arrived abated enough that we could sit outside. So long as we stayed along the rear passenger side of Livvy! That blocked just enough of the wind that we were comfortable. And it felt great to be outside again! Incidentally, I think Dickinson may replace Chicago as the “windy city”.
We got in some stitching time (lacking on the trip so far due to a busy yet fulfilling itinerary). Dinner of pizza was able to be eaten outside. For our drinks tonight we chose to try the Huckleberry Vodka we purchased in Yellowstone and they were great!
Tomorrow we HOPE to be writing from a different location, preferably one 7-8 hours east of here. Where that will be we haven’t a guess. But there’s always the chance we will still be here in the Windy City, hoping yet again for a tire repair. Cheers!
