Being retired, we are learning to take full advantage of the times that work best for us. (Aka less crowds, less cost). And so this week was a fantastic mid-week adventure!
For those who don’t know, Rick is a serious coaster enthusiast. I am not. But I do love a new adventure and an opportunity to try a highly rated campground, especially relatively close to home!
So just after Memorial Day festivities, we packed up Livvy for an adventure to the Kings Island area. We have a (fancy Cedar Point) park pass that includes admission to this and other Cedar Fair owned parks. This may be the last year that we do this, so we took the opportunity. It was a first time in a long time for Rick, so there were many new rides. Our first stop was actually in KY, since we made our way down to PartySource for some goodies; they were both gifts and for our personal consumption. Great stop!
We made our way to the Camp Cedar campgrounds on Tuesday. This was built/opened by Cedar Fair just a couple of years ago, but is now owned/operated completely separate from Kings Island. There is a very convenient shuttle between the two, but that is really the only connection.
The park itself was smaller than we expected, but packed with coasters. We wandered a bit on Tuesday evening to get a literal lay of the land. Rick went back (solo) on Wed to get a few coaster rides in, and that was it for Kings Island. He will say that the ones he rode were fun, but he has less patience to wait alone than he used to. (And I am just not a coaster wife)
The campground had a lot to offer, so we were primarily staying there for our 3 nights in the area. We had a lovely site, great weather and lots of amenities.
It was great to catch up with Michelle (aka Chelly, Funny Girl) on Wednesday for dinner/drinks. Sharing old stories and catching up was good for my soul.
Thursday was a whole bunch more of relaxing, stitching, and appreciating how well our awning works, especially since we didn’t use it at all out west.
We got back on Friday, just as all of the weekend festivities were ramping up at Camp Cedar.
Our site was close to all of the amenities which meant the pool area too… and they played club music 12 hrs/day. So being home where there isn’t a constant thumping beat is something to treasure.
We have been reflecting on this short, fun, easy to navigate visit. We feel like we are at home in our tiny home on wheels, and it is a comfortable place to be. We enjoyed several of the improvements we made on this trip; the best was little tables to replace the awful ones that attach to our recliners. This is a game changer for our inside time!!!! We also had reorganized some things, and left things at home that we just weren’t using. (2 pots instead of 4, for example).
But then we also used the time to make some lovely Amazon purchases to improve it further; the Amazon drivers definitely know when we get home from a trip! Some of it is tweaking our setup, like moving from the mini-Keurig to a regular, but compact, brewed coffee pot. We are also finding better ways for things like hanging towels and shower supplies to improve the functionality of our bathroom. Facebook groups have been fun learning grounds, with some trial and error. Others are supplies for our quickly approaching next adventure, including new pellets for our solo stove and new kinds of insect repellents. But this learning process has been so fun, and we keep making the time on the road one that we will want to do for years to come.
We are back on the road in Livvy in less than 2 weeks! Can’t wait!!!
