A day of respite

We spent another glorious day at Silver Lake today. Like most of the past couple of weeks, the weather cooperated perfectly. Mostly clear blue skies and (for this time of year and altitude) warm temps. In the upper 40’s, but with the bright sun it felt great!

The campsite where we are staying, Silver Lake Resort, has a small cafe open for breakfast and lunch. The reviews we read were glowing, so we decided to try it for breakfast. I’ll preface this by saying I am not really a breakfast person. By that I mean I don’t really get pumped for eggs or sausage or pancakes or waffles – the normal boring stuff. But what I do really like is breakfast with some kick. Something different and spicy.

Until today, my favorite place to get breakfast (if I have to) is Starliner Diner in Dublin, Ohio. Mostly because it is a Cuban restaurant and their dishes are truly inspired. That changed this morning at the Silver Lake Resort Cafe. It is now the best I have ever had.

The cafe itself is small and unassuming. There are perhaps 6 tables and a counter that seats 8.

The reviews we read overwhelmingly said the omelets are wonderful, so we each got a different one. Both of them were fantastic! The omelet itself was perfectly light, and the fillings were amazing. Mine, of course, had chili and jalapenos along with red and green salsa. And the potatoes were just as perfect.

We were so full after breakfast that we needed something to do to keep from falling asleep. Fortunately, our home on wheels was in need of a good cleaning. Working together we were able to get the inside cleaned out to make the last 8 days of our journey more comfortable.

A very clean (inside only!) home on wheels

The combination of the huge breakfast, intense cleaning, and thin mountain air left us exhausted. The weather being great, we sat outside and got to work on our needlepoint projects. This drew quite the attention from the predominantly fishing crowd around us. We’re threading needles and they’re gutting fish.

Overall it was still a relaxing day, which we really needed. The past couple of weeks at the National Parks, hiking and setting up and tearing down camp each day, had left us a bit tired. So today was a welcome change.

On, and by the way, the cover picture on this post was taken by Karen this morning as she walked the Needy Bichon. She is quite proud of it, and she should be. It’s fantastic!!

It may not look it, but this is his happy face.
Our purchases from the general store today. How could I not buy a beer named “Howdy”?
My new motto. Anyone planning on giving me any guff can just keep it. I am not taking it.

    Fantastic pic Karen.

    It looks like a postcard.
Love how those views are just part of your day! Not even a real destination!
