For the first time since Orangeland, we had a full day with nothing planned. No long drive, no national park, no nothing. It’s a good feeling, and one we’re going to repeat for a few days.
Some of us slept in late (That would be me. Karen was up much earlier.). It was great to sit outside in the crisp mountain air to have a leisurely coffee and breakfast. We took a walk to the marina to inquire about boat rental (see tomorrow’s story), then decided to take a trip into town.
The small town (perhaps only a village, but who knows?) was set along one main road. Only about half of the businesses were open, due to our visit during off-season and on a weekday. However, we enjoyed a wonderful lunch at a cute little roadside place called Hungry Hut. They have a small menu, but what they have is done right. The burger and chicken sandwiches were both freshly made and outstanding. The fries and onion rings were pure perfection!
We also took time to wander in and out of a few shops, which included a stop at Shaverkeps Mild to Wild Liquor. We read so many great reviews about the store and the owner that we had to stop in – even though we did NOT need additional spirits. The shop was amazing, and the owner every bit as friendly as people wrote. We left with some much unneeded alcohol. Oh well, we’ll drink it!
We enjoyed the rest of the afternoon sitting outside and stitching. It’s a simple life, but it’s simply great!
