When they say that there are curvy roads ahead…

They mean it!

We said goodbye to Yanks RV resort this am with a lovely breakfast outside in the warm sun. I really enjoyed the various flowers and plants they had there, which offset the super flat land which immediately surrounded us, before the beautiful mountain ranges in the distance. Another great stop.

Today is all about…. Inland! This is where we have been so excited to get to. Things changed quickly to hills and beautiful forested areas. We then experienced valleys, ranches, barren hills and lots of rock. “I feel so small” was what I said; and continued to feel that through changing landscape. Everything was so vast around us. Rick even said part of the roads look like they were carved just enough for us to get through. The last part of my drive into Visalia was a variety of agricultural fields. We didn’t figure them all out, but today’s new crops included pistachios; I learned 98% of US pistachio production is in CA. Now I wish I had some to snack on…

Visalia was a purposeful stop along the way for successful pickup of groceries, cat litter and our final gas stop; the campground recommended we get all of our necessities in this area since we are about to go remote. More importantly, we got to see Dan! So glad he came to see us, even on a busy Sunday for them, as we were only 15 min away! We are so glad to have seen him to say thanks for the winery visits and share stories about this area. Bummer if we don’t get to spend more time with him and Alex, but they are busy travelling, too (and still working).

Then we made our way toward our campground. The Sequoia Resort and RV park has some serious recommendations (below) about the drive, and they weren’t kidding! Poor Rick had this leg of the drive. It was clearly the windiest road of our life, and almost 30 miles of it! Stunning views, but omg. Rocks, cliffs, ditches. All of it. We even saw some snow capped peaks in the distance of the beautiful mountain ranges here. Two lanes, often quite narrow.. Thankfully no traffic. When we finally got here and checked in, we were so grateful.

And it is worth it! This place is super rustic and you are definitely here for the views. Apparently there is a lake here on the grounds, that we will have to check that out too. I can’t wait to see the stars.

Tomorrow, off to Sequoia bright and early!

Daisy by the daisies on our morning walk!
Dan, our winery guru and my longtime friend from the Clinic. So glad we at least had a quick visit in his current hometown of Visalia in case we can’t get our stars to align along this journey.
Now this is a small town, and we made a serious climb today!
Recommending Dramamine was a good idea… and we even avoided the jackknife turn!
Host here is super nice – he asked which way we came from. When we said Visalia, he said that we needed a beer after that drive. He was right!!
So glad to be here for a few nights to explore Sequoia National Park. We’ve heard/seen quite a bit and are ready to experience it for ourselves!

What a view!!
