I told you so

It happened today exactly as expected.

The day dawned much the same as it has for about a week. Mild temps and overcast skies. We had plenty of time before heading out, so we enjoyed a leisurely cup of coffee (well, two cups actually) and breakfast. It is great to be able to take our time in the morning (we didn’t have to be anywhere until 2:00pm), so we relish these days.

Karen and I got some blood pumping with a nice walk around the campground, and got Daisy some limited (but to her, extensive) exercise as well. We even got to eat lunch before heading out! It was such a great day to eat at the picnic table without rush. Then it came time to head out for our one wine tasing of the day.

We visited a very, very small, boutique winery called Torrin this afternoon. We were guided here by our friends Dan and Alex, who raved about the place. The short drive from our campground to the winery was nothing short of stunning. The road wound gradually up into the surrounding hills, covered over in spots by overhanging branches of enormous trees. I am no arborist, so I have zero idea what type of trees they were. Suffice it to say they were large, old, and gorgeous. That’s gotta be enough for you.

Torrin sits on the side of these rolling hills, a relatively small property compared to many of the numerous growers we passed in route. A perfectly rusted steel gate barred the driveway, with a matching sign announcing its name – Torrin. We were happy to see that there was plenty of parking for Livvy, and there was even another similar one already there. Of course, I had to park next to it. Folks need to support each other.

Although the grounds and wine production facility was small, it was incredibly well-maintained. Our tasting was held on the patio, and our guide for the afternoon was Matt. We were set to enjoy 5 wines, each very different from each other. We ended up trying 6, thanks to Matt.

I will not recount the glory (and I mean, GLORY) of the wines we tasted or all that we learned about their production. What I will say is this. We have had a bunch of wine tastings over the years, but have never had one where we loved every single wine poured. That happened today. Darn you Dan!! You sent us to a place that had EXACTLY the wines we would love! Consequently, we are now the newest members of the Torrin wine club. You’re going to pay for this, Dan. 🙂

If you have never had the opportunity to do a wine tasting, or thought you’d never like it, please do yourself a favor and give it a try. The whole experience can be so much fun, especially when you have a wonderful host. Unlike us today, you won’t like every wine you try, and that’s okay. You just may stumble upon something that really hits the spot for you. Something you’d never considered. And that’s just fun.

Come to think of it, isn’t life the same? For us it is. The wine tasting was a microcosm of this entire trip we’re on. Opening up ourselves to things we’ve never experienced. Trying new things, visiting new places. Reminding ourselves daily just how magnificent life is.

A perfectly-rusted sign
Torrin is NOT a big, corporate facility. But isn’t that stunning?
They even printed our names on the tasting menu. Tres chic.
My view for the day was the best.
Karen’s view left a bit to be desired. The vines in the background make up for it.
Yes, this is really similar to the last picture of Karen, but I love it so I added it as well!
We were lucky (un?) enough to have NB join us.
The wine cellar. This is TWO full years of wine aging. To the left is 2022 vintage and the right is 2023. When we said small, we meant it. Less than 2,000 total cases in each. Small but unimaginably great!
