We have headed northwest, out of the heat. We had one last A/C dependent night, one more much needed Benadryl for Rick, and we think we have left the allergies behind us. We certainly hope that we have!
In turning northwest, we now have much shorter drives ahead of us. We are grateful to the great advice from Jim and Dan yesterday, and so our drive into the LA area was rather uneventful. We had a few slow downs but they were expected, and making our full commute in about 2.5 hours is just easy compared to our first week of travel.
The clear, hot desert scene transitioned quickly to more green, more developed land and many more lanes of traffic! At one point 12 lanes in total, including 2 each way for express lanes. Jim was telling us yesterday that they do “surge pricing” on those, and so the prices didn’t seem bad at 10am, but then again, with little traffic there was no need for anyone to use them. Glad to have avoided that drama.
And… we saw the smog. Seriously, we can’t tell it now that we are here but you could definitely see the haze as you were driving in. (see pics below) Hopeful that doesn’t kick up any other kind of allergies, but so far, so good.
The most exciting thing about getting here is that we are parking the RV for 3 full nights, with no intention to drive anywhere. What a wonderful break this is after so many miles in just over a week. It feels quite luxurious, especially since Orangeland RV park is spacious, clean, and provides some nice amenities. Most importantly, lots and lots of fruit trees and we can pick whatever we want! They will even supply you the fruit picker.
So far, I’ve had one perfect orange in one perfect vodka soda. But there are also grapefruit and limes that I plan to enjoy over the next couple of days.
Due to our short drive today, we had some time to kill and we wanted to be a little active outside. So we took a nice neighborhood stroll to the liquor store, about 3.5 miles in total. After all, how does one have a perfect orange vodka soda without a supply of vodka?
We enjoyed the rest of the day outside relaxing. I got some much needed needlepoint time, we did some planning for the next few days, and enjoyed dinner at our picnic table. No AC needed tonight!!
