When you are actually living the dream….

What a week. And it is only Wednesday!

We have been talking about this trip for well over a year. Should we buy an RV, should we drive our car and stay in hotels, or should we rent an RV? We (ok, I) went round and round but definitely did the right thing for us in buying Livvy last summer. Our home on wheels is perfect for us. (Thanks Jennifer and Andrea L for the awesome gift in the cover photo, it makes me smile every time I see it)

Should we go try to see as many parks as possible in a single trip, or is it better to take our time, savor each location and make multiple trips out west over the next couple of years? Again, our initial experiences and advice from fellow travelers have guided and shaped this adventure, and we feel this 40 day trip is perfect for us. We are taking our time getting places, and once we get out to our primary destinations, we will stay a few days at each to really experience it. There will be more adventures to come!

But one thing never changed… we were going to enjoy an amazing eclipse experience at home and then head out West for one amazing journey! And so yes, we are living our dream. Plus, today has been free of any disasters, and so we consider that a win.

The Needy Bichon and Cat took some time to get settled last night, but eventually joined us in loving this space, including the open windows for cool breezes and birds chirping. I am always up early in the morning, so Peeta especially enjoyed watching the squirrels and birds from his new perch. Rick made that for him so he can get up to his own space, away from the Needy Bichon. He has adjusted perfectly, and the added bonus of surveying our surroundings is a big hit.

We were on the road early for a quick visit to Gateway Arch. Any suitable RV parking was a bit of a trek; so after a drive by, Rick walked to the visitor center to get our passport stamped. Awesome stop, but no desire to stay…

Off to Kansas City! We are safely settled at Worlds of Fun Campground, which is a Cedar Fair property. We got our laundry done from yesterday’s cleanup efforts and ordered AMAZING BBQ takeout (thanks Bill S for the Jack Stacks recommendation, also suggested by campground staff). The park isn’t open for the season yet, but my coaster geek husband (former license plate CDR PT 1) was excited to hear them testing the rides. This place is similar to what Cedar Point would be like in the offseason, minus the lake and midges/mosquitos. And close to our intended adventures for tomorrow 🙂

For now, we will enjoy a quiet, uneventful evening in KC, including an awesome carrot cake for dessert. Sitting outside is one of our favorite ways to relax, especially after a long day in the car.

Peeta’s new perch… and me in my recliner with Daisy. Zoom in and you can see the squirrel just below the screen door handle. We are loving it!
Yes, it is spring. We have already seen so much more evidence of it
Selfie by the arch not just to say “been there, saw that” but also to prove he was still alive after walking through some strange areas of downtown to get there
You really can get just about anything just off the highway… the signs keep us entertained
No it is not cedar point, but the view is the same from our campsite!
KC Barbecue is living up to its hype, even as an Uber Eats delivery! (and yes we have leftovers)

Not sure what I am more impressed with…the food which looks fantastic pr the Crane’s Country Store which reminds me so much of Texas, both in verbiage and style.?
