Boats, monorails, fireworks, and the Gulf

I didn’t get around to posting last night, so this one covers yesterday and today.

After a great morning enjoying coffee and taking daisy (Needy Bichon) for a walk, we decided to walk to the marina again and see where we could go. The only boat running at that time went to the Magic Kingdom gate, so we hopped on board. I have visited Disney many times over the years, but I never appreciated the network of manmade lakes and channels that connected parks and resorts.

Our boat took us from Fort Wilderness right to the front gate of Magic Kingdom. Seeing the park profile (mostly the train station, castle, and Space Mountain) from the water was really fun! Once ashore, and after taking the obligatory selfie (see below), we hopped on the Monorail for a trip around the lagoon to pay a visit to to the Grand Floridian – the crown jewel of Disney properties.

The Grand Floridian was majestic and beautiful and elegant and absolutely NOT us. We were happy to walk around, but couldn’t see ourselves ever staying there. We then caught another water taxi back to the Magic Kingdom gates, where we switched boats and returned to the campground. The transportation systems Disney provides, for free, and both varied and fun. If you have never spent time in the past, give it a try on your next visit!

In the evening our friend Jer came to the campground for a visit. Karen used to work with him and he now lives in Orlando. We had a lovely dinner at a campground restaurant on the lake, and finished the evening by watching the Magic Kingdom fireworks, easily seen just over the waterway. We have already started planning a return to Orlando later this year to hit the parks (stay tuned!). We went to bed anticipating a relaxing cup of coffee outside in the morning as we prepared to drive up the Gulf coast.

I woke at 8:00am the next morning to see Karen already showered and dressed. She let me know that the water in the shower began backing up as she finished, a sign that the grey water tank (which holds drain water) was full. After getting dressed, she figured she would head outside and drain both tanks. Like we were taught, she first pulled the lever to drain the black (sewage) tank.

CRAP!

Black water (yes, exactly what you think!) started spraying from the bottom side of the drain hose. Someone who shall remain nameless (me) did not connect the drain correctly upon arrival, causing discarded material to cover the better part of Karen’s lower arm. That is not the way to start off the day after showering.?But she got it fixed and completed the tank duties.

By the time I had awaken, Karen had just finished decontaminating herself from the ordeal. I felt awful, but she didn’t hold it against me. It was a lesson I learned to just take my time! To make matters even worse, Karen then proceeded to hit her head VERY hard on the roof of the cab while trying to reach for something. Needless to say, she did not take the first driving shift. Fortunately her head cleared up after a couple of hours. What a morning for her!

We had a pretty uneventful drive from Orlando to Port St. Joe, our home for the evening. The campground is situated right across a 2-lane road from the Gulf and it is simply gorgeous. However, being that it was 44 degrees when we arrived, sitting on the beach wasn’t an option. It did make for a wonderful sunset!

We have another 6 hour driving day tomorrow to get to our next destination – the Big Easy. See you tomorrow from Bourbon Street!
