It’s day 46 of 70. We are 2,583.7 miles from home. And today, we took a break. You’re probably thinking “it’s about time!”
Rick woke up yesterday knowing that he didn’t feel well but tried to power through it. Today, we took our rest day. He’s fine, but the cold symptoms definitely required some good old fashioned remedies and a day of rest (at least one). He slept nearly all day. This time we weren’t sleep deprived, heat exhausted, hung over or anything of the sort. It was just time for a break. Oh, and maybe 9 mile hike earlier this week was above the limit of reasonableness.
It was a cloudy, cool day; this place is both comfortable and quiet. It was the perfect day for us to chill inside our tiny house on wheels. I finished reading my latest novel while enjoying coffee. I also had time to stitch, so it was a comforting day for me, too. The sun came out late afternoon after he finished napping; we were able to do a few laps around the campground to stretch our legs, and so he’s definitely on the mend.
When we were packing for this long trip, I really took the time to pack some extra things from our medicine cabinet. I’m so glad that I packed some cold tablets, cough syrup and our thermometer this time. They came in handy today and should get us through until our next shopping day. That, ginger ale and homemade potato soup rounds out the “meds” for today!
Naturally, I’m starting to think about home. Just last week in a wine tasting, the host asked us if we missed it. We both quickly said no, and it was true. But now I am starting to get excited about the journey back East. Normally I would have spent a day like this cooking, baking or organizing; I did miss being at home with quiet time on my hands. We love our travels in Livvy, but it is not something that either of us could do full time It is the best way for us to experience the National Parks in the continental US, indeed… but it isn’t something that we aspire to do year round. This is likely the longest trip that we will ever take, and we knew that going into it. I don’t think that you come all this way to just see “some of it” in hopes that you can get back here again someday. It is just too far of a drive (or flight). We intend to enjoy every mile and every destination ahead, especially after we are fully rested up. I’m grateful that this is the place where we took a real break. There is still plenty of fun in front of us, but it will be nice to get back to friends, family and all of our suburban amenities!
