I had some time today to think about how far away from home we are. 2,499 miles, to be exact. Forks WA took the prize for the furthest away from home at 2,576 miles. We won’t make much progress on the miles from home over the next few weeks, either. We made the conscious decision to be deeply entrenched in this part of the country for a while.
At one point, we thought about splitting this trip in two. But the drive out and the drive back are just not as much fun as the destinations themselves, and it is a significant number of days invested to get this far from home. I’m so I’m glad that decided to just do it all while we have a singular, spectacular PNW trip. Tomorrow marks the halfway point. What an adventure it has been so far. There is so much fun still ahead of us on this journey!
That being said, we needed to make sure that our travel calendar had enough time to expect the unexpected, give time for bad weather days and/or rest between major destinations. Today is just another one of those days, especially since we visited the Mt. St. Helens area yesterday. Especially on a long trip like this, we love these days almost as much as the destinations themselves.
Today was a little unique in that we have space, and lots of it. There is really no one in this area of the campground. The spaces are huge, and there are massive grass areas before you get to the channel where Rick has been fishing. We have it all to ourselves!
I have had good intention of exercising frequently while on the road, even building a body weight and resistance band program before we left home. I was glad to have the chance to do that outside today. It’s much easier than trying to make space to do that in our RV. I also took the time launder all of our blankets. Nothing like starting out the second half feeling fresh.
Plus the weather was perfect for Rick to get in some more fishing! Today was impressive with 18 total catches. Nothing too big in size, but a big amount of satisfaction. We even walked up to a local spot in order to buy more worms today. I’m hoping he will have the chance to get more fishing in later on this trip, but I’m not sure much can top this space as far as the full experience of enjoying the peaceful solitude of fishing.

Tomorrow, we head into Oregon for more excitement; the next two states offer a different kind of variety in our calendar. I’m thirsty just thinking about it ?
