In planning our travels, we have shared that we try to find the perfect balance… freeze/heat, crowds/seclusion. Always, we are seeking a private site and our ability to enjoy time without the required constant direct interaction of others. And that, threading the needle, became our topic of conversation today.
First, lets reflect. It has been one week since Rick was admitted to the hospital for PE. Dang, so scary. We have done a great job of having more rest and the right level of (in)activity. While we may have had times today that approached being bored, we know that it is the rest that we need.
And today was an intended rest day. It probably would have been so even without last week’s illness, because this is a perfect spot for rest. We love the riverside spot and seclusion, especially as compared to our previous campground. While these spots are close together, the sound of the river rushing through it provides the needed privacy from whatever is going on around us.
We woke up to the relaxing sounds of the river. We were able to enjoy a nice lunch outside when it became warm enough . We had some spotty rain left over after last nights’ solid soaking (which was great for one of us to fall asleep to), and it was nice to just enjoy our rest with the river running right next to us. We had 2, yes 2, nap times today!
By mid-afternoon, though, we were all ready to move. The weather has kept us inside plenty the past week, but we can only do so much in this tiny house on wheels. We are not good at slowing down for long periods of time!! Rick decided to clean, which is one of his favorite pastimes. I had been stitching after finishing yet another book. Then, as it was time to walk the Needy Bichon, we are so grateful that the skies cleared.
I was able to finish up the cleaning by sweeping out the floors, and he helped to shake out our rugs. One thing about RV living is that little gravel gets everywhere, especially when it rains. Anyhow, I finished up our cleaning in our tiny house while he made our cocktails. It has been quite a while, and Rick was ready for his favorite treat.
The weather finally cooperated and we enjoyed time outside, along the river for a great chat about future travelling. We have agreed that this has been a fantastic adventure, even despite its setbacks; we are so excited for our next trip later this year! We had a great time aligning on what our priorities are for 2026 (amid important weddings :)) Threading the needle to make the right plans at the right time, in the right climate/setting, is always our goal. Rest days help us reflect on our experiences and set the stage for future travels. It is a fine balance and takes a lot of work to plan all of this! We also enjoyed talking to a few neighbors today, which reinforced our planning and learning. We continue to refine how we do things, and make list upon list on how to keep doing it better the next time. Little things make a big difference! One the most important is the rest time that we build in.
Then the skies darkened again, and it was time to get back under the awning. Our solo stove comes in handy tonight (thanks Ted and Nick) while we relax and make a great dinner outside. The skies have finally cleared again, hopefully for good this time. We are ready to get back into (mild) National Park hiking tomorrow, in one of our favorite spots!
