First off, thank you to everyone who has reached out over the last two days. That means a lot. I am feeling better today, but still quite a bit off the Norm*.
This morning we bid farewell to Cedar City and our campsite for the last 5 nights. Given our time there, I am sure I will never forget the place. Cedar City truly is a lovely town and hopefully we will find ourselves back there in the future, even for just a quick stop.
As Karen mentioned yesterday, we are bypassing Great Basin National Park due to remoteness. So today we made the 4-hour drive northward to Salt Lake City. We stayed at this same campground, located in the city and very close to the airport, last year. Even though it is an urban location the park is very nice. In fact, if all goes as planned (as we have seen it does not always!), we should be spending another night here later this summer.
Being in SLC meant we could spend the evening with my Uncle Mike and Aunt Yukiko. Like last year, they made the short trek from their home on the south side of the city to visit at the campsite. They brought pizza (which we crave on the road!) and some fresh fruit (ditto). It was great to sit around in the cool weather and just tell stories. It was definitely a fun evening! Thank you so much to both of them.
Tomorrow morning we will hit the road again on this shortcut to the Rockies, making a stop for the evening in Laramie, Wyoming. Where the men are men and the sheep are nervous.
I have not regretted one bit the changes we have made thus far to our itinerary. Most of the thanks goes to Karen for her foresight. She has succeeded in keeping us out of extreme heat and near good medical care. An experience like this really shows how well we function as a team. It’s a great feeling.
*As in Norm from Cheers. Actor George Wendt passed away, so I thought I’d throw in a reference.
