RV life involves many little processes and skills. Learning what to pack, how to pack it, and how much you really need for “xx” days takes practice. Some equipment is necessary, other is for comfort and enjoyment. As we embark on this latest journey, we see many ways we have already improved how we do things.
Some of it is trial and error. There are things that came with Livvy that we simply don’t need or want… those now stay home. This includes multiple tvs, an extra tabletop, etc. We save space, weight and time by not having these things with us on the road. We learned only need 2 pans, a couple of knives instead of the whole set. We have also bought things, such as a fantastic new pair of lightweight camp chairs, that just make things better.
We have had some failed purchases along the way too. Now that we are downsizing at home, they become apparent. Things like a campground outdoor floor mat and outdoor gas grill. Maybe we try to sell them, but most likely off to the donation pile for those things!
(Speaking of donation pile… we love Good Neighbor Thrift Shop in Avon Lake. They take almost anything, and I have taken them carloads in the past month. It is a great ministry to help others through resale or passing along to those in need.)
There are still other things that we look at and say “not this trip”. Example, large fire pit is not needed this time since we plan to be warm most of this adventure.
So when we packed up Livvy this week, we were pleasantly surprised that we had more room than we thought! I call that a significant process improvement. Clearly, we have applied skills from our professional lives to our RV life!
The new home is also very conducive for Livvy travels. Condo living and a shared driveway made the prep/cleanup process more stressful than it needed to be. At our new home it feels less like a fire drill, and will allow us to better enjoy this part of the process. We will continue to store Livvy offsite, but can have her in the driveway for a day or two before/after a trip. We don’t want to look like Cousin Eddie is visiting and annoy the new neighbors! (Plus Bay Village says 72 hrs max, which we find very generous).
We have made it to the outskirts of Nashville. We enjoyed some lovely “late afternoon sun” which is funny since it is central time and sunset was at 4:43pm!!! We are in music city, so yes, there was live music right at our campground! We appreciated the happy hour entertainment.
We are settled here for a couple of days to do a little exploring and a whole lot of relaxing.
