We will be driving this road for the next few days, until we are literally a few miles from home. As much as we have loved this trip, once you are heading towards home, you get excited to be home! We are busy ramping up our plans for our brief time in OH (and PA) for a few weeks.
I want to share a few reflections from the past few days because it has been a whirlwind. It is a good time to practice gratitude and manifest the abundance around us. (as apparently the Progressive Insurance commercials advise, thanks Dean!)
Silver Lake – wow so stunning. I think it is an amazing location for all the reasons we stated in our previous posts, and many happy memories. I do recommend the June Lake loop area. But I would definitely want to return in warmer weather when we could enjoy the kayaks. In the spring, it is testosterone overload. The dominant clientele were guys there for fishing trips, bringing all of their RVs to the lake for the weekend to hang out with their buddies. Don’t these guys have moms or wives for Mother’s Day weekend?? I heard a few of them saying how nice it is to be there with “just the guys” in the spring… of course their language was a little more colorful. So ladies, don’t make this your time for a special trip.
Benton Hot Springs – this was so very special. Yes, a rough start (because we are picky about roads for Livvy, but we went slow and it was fine). And seriously, who takes their kids to a place with clothing optional hot tubs as the featured attraction and then lets them run around all over the place, and lets their dog run loose too? Some people are just completely ignorant. But I am practicing gratitude and will forget about these people, which was easy to do once we got settled. We were so, so grateful for a level, quiet spot in with unique amenities. This was such a fun, special evening. I loved the hot springs so much, and even got a great recommendation today for additional hot spring locations in ID (which we will be at in the future). If you have never tried a natural hot spring, I highly recommended it. And there was plenty of privacy when it got dark and the kids weren’t riding their bikes around anymore 🙂
Salt Lake City – oh, how I love this area. We so enjoyed the family visit and both agreed we wish we could have stayed longer. We had been there in 2023 (flying in, with Rick’s mom) and got to explore a little then, but today the area was so green and warm. I wish we could have had time to hike, visit, and have more fun exploring in this area! But it was a meaningful quick visit. It was time to move towards home…
Today’s journey was from Salt Lake City, Utah (known as SL UT according to the postcards in the camp store), to Laramie Wyoming. New state! Shortly into WY, we saw several signs directing us for the proper route to Yellowstone/Tetons. I was kind of tempted to just stay another month rather than make the trip home, only to come back in a few weeks… but we kept on going? We are already so excited for our next big adventure out to two more epic National Parks out west! The countdown is on…
We had another incredible drive with vast expanses, beautiful views, etc etc etc. I can’t come up with any new words, so I just share a couple of pictures below. Today marks the first day, though, that we saw Antelope! Super cool.
An observation from the road, that I don’t think that we have mentioned, is that we ?? Love’s! While we are Buc-cees fans, they are not in this area and are also not RV/diesel friendly. So we have found that Love’s is clean, great selection of food/treats and they have the best windshield washer squeegees for our tall vehicle. Driving this many miles, this matters! We go out of our way to stop and shop anytime there is a Love’s in the area.
Tonight, we are grateful to be safely at our next stop for some lovely time outside, a warm dinner of Jambalaya and cornbread, and a good nights sleep before our next leg towards OH tomorrow! Nebraska, you’re up next.
